Baby Play Mats, Plat Gyms and Play Nests

A baby play mat may not be at the the top of your list of "essential things to buy" but its actually an important piece of equipment that can play a crucial part of your babies early development.

Baby play mats are available in a variety of shapes and designs which we can split into three main categories: play mats (including tummy mats), play gyms and play nests.

  • Play mats (tummy mats) - are padded cushioned fabric mats with developmental toys and activities.
  • play gyms - are usually padded or cushioned fabric mats with an arch for adding additional developmental toys and activities.
  • Play nests - are an inflatable fabric covered ring that allows younger babies to sit to see and touch the textured surface and the included toys.

All of these mats are designed to help your baby to exercise and build control over his/her muscles. They provide a stimulating environment which encourages your baby to explore the world around them. They Boost hand-eye co-ordination skills encourage them to reach up and grasp toys.

So why buy a play mat?

A baby play mat is basically a learning/play zone where he or she can play safely (obviously with mum and dad supervising at all times!). You may have already brought many individual toys (educational and play) for your baby, but a playmat has the advantage of having all these sensory textures and learning tools in one place.

Things to consider when choosing a baby play mat

All play mats should provide a comfortable surface and environment for your baby to crawl and play (a soft and fun surface for tummy play!). Activity playmats boast a number of different developmental toys (contrasting textures, sounds, bright colours and toys), so your babys preferences (likes and dislikes) will go some way in helping you decide which play mat has the most appropriate features.

Another important requirement is the need for easy cleaning. Its very probable that the play mat will get dirty very quickly, so a hard wearing durable mat will look as good as new after a wipe with a damp cloth.

So how will a play mat benefit my baby?

They provide healthy exercise, can help to improve hand eye co-ordination skills and the soft comfortable textured fabrics provide a safe surface for your baby to spend their time when playing.

If you want something that's a little more substantial, then you should look for a suitable "activity mat and play gym" which has the added benefit of having an additional surface (arch) to add further toys and activities.

Lets take a look at an example from each category?

The Taf Toys range of play mats includes the "I Love Big Mat" which is ideal for homes with wood or stone floors. The playmat also features textures and sounds and a mirror to entertain junior. It features great graphics with a spotty lime underside and comes complete with its own carry bag.

The Taf Toys 2 in 1 Smart gym is both a huge soft play mat and a soft play gym. It is loaded with developmental play features for your baby to enjoy whilst playing.

And finally the Galt Playnest is a fabric-covered inflatable ring, which provides vital support for baby during both rest and play with its unique combination of a soft resting area and a self contained play environment for babies and toddlers. The fabric cover has quilted centre for baby's comfort and is machine washable.

Best Baby Slings: The Must Haves

A baby sling is the most versatile of the infant carrier family, even though it's only constructed of a single piece of fabric. It's designed to go over one shoulder and around the opposite hip in a diagonal wrap to disperse the weight of the baby onto the carrier.

The strap is made adjustable by sling rings, which also supports the weight bearing down on the strap. Inside where a pocket has formed from the fabric is where the baby is cradled. A good quality baby sling will have padding in the shoulder and the rails of the sling to offer more support and comfort for the parent, it also provides more support for a newborns head and neck at an age where it's most vulnerable.

Its unique design is ideal for nursing mothers and is also adjustable for when sharing with different sized people using the same sling. Yet not all of the sling models provide these features that make for the best sling. The baby sling comes in two different designs; the ring sling is sold as one size fits all and the pouch sling comes in different sizes since the straps are not adjustable.

The Maya Wrap Baby Slings are the most versatile and popular of the baby ring slings available. Besides its practicality, having an adjustable ring sling makes it very easy to use one sling for multiple-sized wearers.

The sling can be tightened or loosened with just a few changes to the rings placement on the strap. Sewn with 100% woven cotton which is cool and breathable, the Maya Wrap has a lightly padded shoulder for maximum comfort but minimum bulk.

The Infantino is the most popular of baby pouch slings, designed with security straps inside the pouch for an extra snug fit for the infant beyond the contoured shape.

The baby pouches appear to be the "training wheels" of baby carriers on today's market. You cannot do anything more with this design other than put it on, slip the baby inside it and go.

There are few adjustments to make and therefore less to learn and nothing to adapt to when the baby's weight and height gain become an issue. However pouches do have a look that many parents prefer for the privacy of the baby, as the edges completely encompass the infant to protect it from harsh weather conditions while being worn outside.

With any baby carrier, the most important thing to know is the position of the baby for the coziness of the parent. It is ideal for the baby to ride high and as tight to the torso as possible in order to guarantee the parents comfort.

In choosing a sling, you need the best fit for your body since the baby's bottom should be somewhere in-between the parent's navel and hipbone. Many of the slings, usually the pouch sling, do not come in multiple sizes. These carriers are being worn with the baby too low which will cause incorrect weight to disperse over the body.

The unpadded ring slings have lots of adjustability, being the easiest to get the baby high enough and tight to the body of the parent. Some pouches do adjust while off the body in order to be shared between different carriers of the sling.

The most important thing to consider in purchasing your sling is that you must achieve the perfect fit for you and your baby, no matter what type of sling you decide on.

Masculine Face Care And Anti-Aging Series - Easy Tips To Master That First Date Part 1

If you're heading for a first date, chances are you're a bit nervous. Take a deep breath.
Being informed and planning ahead are the masculine man's best defenses against
first date jitters.

Have a Game Plan

It's important to decide where to go and what to eat. As a masculine man (and the one who asked her out) you'll want to do the planning. You don't necessarily want to make every decision on the date, but you should know her preferences. It's a good idea to ask her if she had something in mind. Be flexible, have a few options available and go over them with her in advance, so she feels like she had a say. Most women will admit that they want to be swept off their feet on a first date and that means that they want to enjoy the man's company without having to make the major decisions.

Consider any common interests and plan an activity that you would both enjoy. You can begin by checking the arts/culture section of your local news sites or local papers for great date ideas. Remember that if a location or activity is boring, the burden falls on you to entertain her and keep the conversation going. If neither of you are into art, chances are that ceramic exhibit at the gallery downtown will have you both bored to tears.

Women love dates that are just a little unexpected - but not too bizarre or out of her (or your) comfort zone. If monkeys make you nervous, don't go to the zoo, even if you know she loves animals. Don't go sailing if you can't swim. And try to avoid high risk activities like zip-lining across the Grand Canyon unless you and your date are both into action sports. You want to come off as fun and exciting, but don't fake compatibility by trying to be someone you're not.

Since conversation is such a huge part of the date, stay away from a movie or concert, unless that's only 50% of the date. You want the chance to talk to her and you won't be able to talk through the movie or scream over heart pounding music!

Selecting the Suitable Restaurant: It's Not the Money, It's the Experience

Choosing the right setting for your game is like walking a tightrope. It's a balancing act, leaning too far in one direction can spell disaster. You might think that you should go with something super fancy - wrong! Super extravagant will likely freak her out. It will seem like you are trying too hard to impress her, have an ulterior motive, or compensating for some obvious flaw in your personality. Skip those places with over-attentive waiters and $$$$ plates - unless you have an undeniably excellent reason for it. When picking the right restaurant - it's not about the money, it's about the experience. She's dating you, not the restaurant.

On the flip side, too casual isn't the way to go, either. You'll look like a cheapskate. Or even worse, that you just didn't care enough about the date to make an effort. You'll also want to avoid chain restaurants by selecting something with some personality. Every town has a hip and trendy place that comes alive at night without your breaking the bank. It's also a great idea to pick a restaurant that you are familiar wth, so you'll feel more comfortable and in control. If you decide to try a new place, be sure to check out their reviews before you make the reservation, but don't get too adventurous by using your first visit as the chance to try a completely unknown cuisine. You don't want to find out on a first date that your stomach didn't agree with you.

Pay attention to the ambiance - avoid noisy restaurants or bars. If you are not certain about the noise level of a place, try finding reviews online. One of the most common things that people mention in reviews is that the noisy level got in the way of an intimate evening. You don't want to scream over a crowd just to talk to your date.

You can also look for a restaurant/bar combo, where you can have a drink and break the ice while you are waiting for your table. Or go for a quiet dinner and then hit another trendy nightspot for drinks. Whatever option you choose, make sure she knows in advance so she can dress properly. You want your date to look stunning don't you? She'll be mortified if she's dressed to the nines and you take her to a place where french fries are the house delicacy. Nothing mortify classy ladies more than dressing for the wrong occasion.

Well, actually, there is - and that brings us to how you prep yourself for the date.

First Impressions Count: Dress to Impress

It's beyond embarrassing for your date, if she looks terrific and you look like you just rolled out of bed. Believe me, we know when a guy has put good effort into his appearance. A good outfit for a first date should be clean, without damage, wrinkle-free, comfortable and properly fitted, with matching dark color socks. Get a full-length mirror and inspect yourself out from head to toe. If you're wearing something newly purchased, be sure to look for tags. You don't want to go on a date with your pants size stuck to your leg.

And Gentlemen - but don't forget about body odor. "Stench No.5" will have us running for the door. Take a shower and wash your hair, and if you don't have time, at least change out that sweaty shirt and underwear. If you are just coming straight from work, use clean wipes in packets (even restaurant packets will do), or baby wipes to give your armpits a quick wipe. Don't douse yourself in cologne - you're not a mobile perfumery. Always remember to double check your shoes and nails - both should be clean. The finishing touches tell the most about a person, because so many people underestimate their importance.

Finally, it's time ot pay attention to your manly face - well in advance of your first date. You should already be on a men's face care schedule, but this is especially true on the day of your date.

Your goal is for your face to look clean, fresh, and inviting. You want to tempt her to wonder what your skin feels like if she presses her cheek to yours. And if you are hoping for a kiss goodnight, a stubbly tired face is bound to be un-inviting.

If you're a guy who never washes his face, or thinks he can get away with splashing water on his mug, think again. Plain water or soap (don't even think about it) steals your skin of vital moisture. It clogs your pores and doesn't clean away the dead skin cells and environmental debris that the masculine man accumulates on his face every day.

The best way for your skin to retain collagen and elasticity (key factors in retaining a youthful appearance) is to put your face on the proper maintenance schedule. The first step is to wash your mug with a high quality anti-aging cleaner that's powerful enough to get rid of the junk on his face, but mild enough so that his skin isn't stripped of moisture. Drug store cleansers and body-washes are packed with additives, lack anti-aging ingredients, and don't do much for your face, even if they're cheap.

Step two is a treatment for your face to help fight fine lines and wrinkles. The daily shave and exposure to the elements can lead to skin damage and premature aging. You can turn back the damage with a treatment that utilizes the power of science and nature to save your masculine hide. If cleaning your face is the "workout", the treatment step like a post-workout protein shake for your face. It will help your skin bounce back and feel better than ever.

Finally, make sure that you apply a masculine face protectant to complete the regimen. The protectant keeps the moisture in so your skin looks clean and fresh throughout the day. Much like the treatment, a high quality anti-aging protectant it's essentially a force field that helps keep the bad stuff out - like skin-damaging free radicals and grime, but keep the good stuff (like moisture) in, and helps boost the collagen and elasticity of your skin. High quality protectants made with essential oils and nutrients will prevent your skin from looking parched and flaky - a definite turn off for the big first date!

Once your mug is looking good, it's back to getting ready for the first date.

Parents Are Looking For The Eddie Bauer Stroller Travel System

You would think that there is a sale going on for the Eddie Bauer Stroller Travel System as parents who are expecting new babies are looking for them all over.

Combination Of Stroller And Baby Seat

Since parents know they will need to buy a proper baby stroller and a baby car seat, the more logical thing to do would be to purchase a complete travel stroller system that comes with a baby stroller and baby seat. The Eddie Bauer travel system strollers for girls and boys are designed to be fully compatible with one another. This means that parents could remove the baby seat from the car and have it latched on to the baby stroller without any problems. This will help them bring their baby around without the need to carry the baby seat.

Good Features

Some of the features that come with the Eddie Bauer stroller travel system range are quite impressive. The baby stroller is able to handle up to a maximum of 50 pounds of your baby's weight while the baby car seat even comes with side impact protection safety features. Other than the fact that parents can use both the stroller and the baby seat together by locking the seat to the stroller, the baby car seat has an adjustable base. The up-front harness on the baby seat could also be adjusted to ensure that your baby gets to sit in comfort.

Easy To Use

Talk about taking complications out of using this stroller travel system. Any parent will find it very easy to use. All they need to do is to lock the baby seat to the car seat base when they need to bring their baby out for a ride in the car. When they want to go for a walk, they just need to unfold the baby stroller as it comes with a one hand fold and stand self-locking feature. Just unlatch the baby seat from the car seat base and have it locked to the baby stroller. And your baby is all ready to go. Whether they prefer to sit or sleep, they could do either on the baby seat or in the baby stroller without you having to break a sweat since you get to wheel them around. Storing the stroller is also easy since it folds up and locks securely to be kept in the car trunk.

Summary

These are some of the reasons that parents are looking for the Eddie Bauer Stroller Travel System as they can look forward to enjoying all the convenience of using it for their baby's comfort as well as their own.

Learning The Basics Of Baby Child Care Is Simple

For most parents, the entrance of a newborn baby into the world is a major event that will have a profound affect on their lives that will also mean changes in routine and everything after the birth of a baby will revolve around taking care of the baby. Fortunately, baby child care is not something that is complicated and in fact it is a task that will provide a lot of joy to the new parents. The basics of good baby child care are simple to learn and if parents ensure that they enjoy their babies, things will prove to be very interesting and enjoyable for everyone concerned.

Cannot Understand Spoken Words

Mothers will need to set aside a certain amount of time that should be devoted to baby child care. It is also necessary for parents to realize that babies are not capable of understanding spoken words; however, speaking in a gentle manner to them is recommended as babies can inflect from the tone how much they are loved by their parents. Slowly but surely babies will come to understand what parents are saying and pretty soon they will start responding by cooing and making gushing sounds.

Even spending just thirty minutes a day is enough to provide necessary baby child care, and even the father should join in and help in changing of nappies. Mothers should also ensure that they feed the baby with their own milk as this will give much pleasure to the baby who will love to suck on their milk.

Proper baby child care also means having close and intimate contact with the baby child and mothers should ensure cuddling the baby, especially when feeding the baby. Giving breast milk is advantageous and recommended in baby child care as the baby gets easily digestible milk that is free of germs, and is safe as well as of the desired temperature.

In case the baby is to be fed with milk that is not derived from the breast of the mother, dried milks can be preferred as these are safe and convenient, and even fresh, diluted and boiled milk can serve a useful purpose as well.

One of the biggest concerns facing mothers is providing their babies with proper baby skin care. Every mother will realize that when choosing the proper baby child care for their babies, many important decisions will have to be made. What's more, having chosen a particular baby child care option, it is then up to the parents to ensure that they diligently follow the recommended steps, and if they have any doubts, it is never a bad idea to seek professional guidance to help get these doubts cleared up.

Revisiting the World of Bracelets

Ornaments like bracelets, wedding rings and gemstone rings have always fascinated the human mind. Of these, bracelets have existed for almost 7000 years now, and are chiefly manufactured from precious stones, metals and some commonly found substances like leather, clothes, wooden pieces, rocks, beads, shells etc. The purpose of wearing a bracelet could vary from decorating one's body to providing somebody with medical assistance or an identification tool. The article's past and present is full of glorious stories like any other jewelry item on earth. The word Bracelet is thought to have originated from the Latin term "brachile" meaning "of the arm".

People in some Latin American countries think of bracelets named Azabache as a shield for the newborn babies against the evil eyes. Such bracelets are normally made either from gold or its alloys. Some gold necklaces, apart from the gold bracelet forms we spoke of, are also occasionally given the same name however, making the category a broader set of protective jewels like gold bracelets, gemstone rings, gold chains, gold necklaces etc. Similar protective ornaments are also found in many other countries, including those from South East Asia and Eastern Europe. A popular Bulgarian tradition named Martenitsa requires wearing of red and white strings around one's wrist area to welcome the arrival of spring. Egyptian bracelets are traced back up to 5000 years BC in time. They were normally made from animal bones, wooden pieces and stones, and carried along some kind of religious and social significance. One of these bracelets, called Scarab, is often found pinned inside many discovered mummies.

Many localized forms of bracelet may be discovered if one traveled across the globe. Glass and metallic bangles worn by the Indian women, and the metallic ones worn chiefly by the North Indian Sikh males, also known as Kadas, are among those many. In the case of Kadas, the bracelets are mostly manufactured from a cheap alloy like stainless steel, but are assumed to carry a great deal of social significance. One might discover many traditional forms of bracelets on traveling across the tribal regions in India, specially the ones from northeastern states. These forms may usually come assembled with wooden and rock pieces, beads, shells, animal bones and some commonly found metal alloys. Of course, the more known type of bracelets, gold bracelets, may be found in use wherever you traveled across India.

Some very popular bracelets of the modern times are charm bracelets, friendship bracelets, sports bracelets and slap bracelets. Wearers of each of these carry some kind of fashion or social statement by making their use. There is a rich variety of bracelets available if you solely began looking out for the fashion part. Bracelets like the Designer Gold Bracelets, White Gold Bracelets, Figaro Bracelets, Diamond Bracelets and Titanium Bracelets are some of the most admired varieties of today's times. All major fashion houses, apart from the known ornament companies, do also launch and promote their own bracelets from time to time.

Visiting ornament selling websites might give you an inside view of the rich options available in gold bracelets and other forms globally. They may start anywhere from $300 and rise up to $1.5k or even more as you looked forward to having a balance between the quantity and quality both. There are plenty of choices available in all individual categories. All you require doing is spending out some time and selecting your preferred Diamond, Figaro or Gold bracelet from a given bunch of so many options.

Hip Baby Clothes: The Hottest Trends for Summer

Summer is always an amazing time for kiddos. Three full months full of endless possibilities, boundless energy, and rays of sunshine beckoning marathon play dates. As the temperatures rise, so does the emphasis on comfy and breezy pieces that are easy care and versatile. Here’s a rundown of some of the hottest trends hitting children’s fashion this summer.

Bold Shoes: Whether they are lime green checkerboard sneakers or cherry red loafers, bold colors and bold patterns are in. They make the ultimate fashion accessory for little ones and can instantly perk up and otherwise boring outfit. A great example is leopard slip on sneakers with a red knit dress for baby girls or bright green loafers with khakis shorts and a retro plaid button up for baby boys.

Sporty Style: With summer camp in full swing, kids are dressed to impress in sporty styles that emphasize athletic cuts and innovative fabrics. Racer back necklines on dresses for girls and stretch fabrics with UV protection are top picks. Boys enjoy graphic printed board shorts made from quick dry fabrics, screen printed tanks, and lightweight cargo pants.

Denim Disasters: Surely a relief to moms everywhere, distressed denim is back in style. The more stains and frays the better. Top designers are introducing lightweight versions of top styles and ensuring they have plenty of air conditioning with busted out knees and holes near pockets. A touch of acid wash and cleverly placed patches are welcome additions as well.

Gold Glitz: As kids spend their days frolicking in the sun their bronzed skin becomes a badge of summertime success. Gold embellishments are the perfect way to pay tribute to the joys of sun worship. A couple of standout pieces are toddler t-shirts with gold embellishments, linen dresses with a golden shimmer, and oversized gold buttons on sports blazers for boys. Gold accessories such as shimmering sunglasses, gold toned shoes, and gold trimmed hair accessories also make great choices.

Minimalist Nautical: While nautical themes are always great for children’s fashions, this summer’s trends show a slight twist on tradition. Instead of obvious references to the sea such as pairing anchors, rope, and boats the choices are more subtle. For example, breezy dresses with assortments of red, blue and white flowers are a popular choice. For boys, the emphasis is on just one focal nautical piece, such as a batik anchor on a sandblasted tee.

Neon Flash: Kids go retro with pops of neon accessories for a true 80's flashback moment. Fun examples of this trend include lime green sunglasses, hot pink shoelaces, bright orange belts, and day glow yellow hair bows. A little flash packs a punch so don’t overload, neon accessories are usually the safest bet. This trend works well for both girls and boys so be sure to have fun with it.

As you welcome summer fun this year, be sure to add a couple of these must have staples to your baby clothes shopping list. These children’s fashion trends are sure to land your little ones on the best dressed list for summer fun.

Preemies- The Doctor Isn't Always Right!

Your son will be born premature, so  terminate the pregnancy right away, or your son will be very likely to die during delivery. If he does survive the delivery, he'll be born without lungs or kidneys and die on the table anyway. He has no chance of survival, and it is too far along in the pregnancy for us to perform the procedure here. It would violate our code of ethics to terminate your pregnancy at this hospital, so you'll have to go to another state, where they allow late-term abortions, is what the doctor told us, with the very same emotion as if he were telling us they were out of apple pie. That is Aiden on the right, back in January,  at three and a half years old, on his first day of preschool, and yes, he was born premature. I sure am glad we didn't listen to that doctor. My name is Ed, I am what is commonly referred to today as a stay at home dad, with one son of my own and two step-sons. Unlike ten years ago, preemies have an outstanding survival rate.

Approximately six years ago I was fortunate enough to meet a wonderfully, beautiful woman named Elaine, who up until July 25, 2007 was the most important person in my life. That was the day I witnessed what could be considered nothing short of a miracle, the birth of my son, Aiden Edward. After being born a preemie, Aiden spent the first three months of his life in the NICU of a hospital.

When we found out that we were pregnant, it came as a bit of a shock at first, but once the initial shock subsided, we became overjoyed with excitement.  At first everything was normal, we were expecting a healthy baby, but Elaine began noticing some spotting and slight leaking. The results of a multitude of tests came back inconclusive, and the doctors told Elaine nothing was wrong.  Then the doctors noticed that Elaine had low amniotic fluid, which in itself is not all that uncommon, but as the weeks passed and her fluid level continued to decline. She would continue to notice spotting and fluid discharge. Eventually this became a weekly event, sometimes more often than that. We would rush off to the hospital every time, until one time we notice heavier than usual spotting and she was also cramping. We arrived at the hospital only to find that this was it, she was going into labor, But wait it's too soon, only 25 and 6/7 weeks. The doctors quickly administered magnesium to slow the contractions and hopefully delay the labor for at least a few more weeks. Ideal human gestational period remember, is 40 weeks. It worked, the magnesium slowed the contractions for now.
It was late at night/early in the morning when the magnesium.....I guess wore off, but they woke us up and told us something was wrong, the contractions were back stronger and closer together. "We're going to have to perform an emergency c-section". Now I don't consider myself to be an easily intimidated, but when I heard the nurse utter those words, my knees buckled and I almost went down. No, I have to be strong for Elaine, at least that's what was going through my head. I had already made it clear to the nurse that I wanted to be present in the delivery room when my son was born, but a c-section. I get queasy just thinking about surgery.

Before I knew it, I was in the delivery room wearing this light blue gown with matching pants and some funky looking hat, scrubbing down and preparing for what promised to be, the experience of my life. Surrounded by doctors and nurses, one of whom was Elaine's sister who worked, along with Elaine in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of this hospital. Some people will tell you is a beautiful natural occurrence you will ever witness. Well they must not have witnessed a c-section. That was, without a doubt the most gruesome thing I've ever seen. They took the sharpest instrument in existence and sliced that poor girl from one side of her abdomen to the other. At this point a nurse had to catch me, before I hit the floor, as Elaine directed my attention away from what was going on south of that sheet and kept telling me to focus on her. As this overwhelming flood of emotions came over me,  finally, I understood what they meant, when people told me that this would be the most beautiful experience of my life. There, emerging from behind that white sheet, was the most beautiful, little, purple creature I had ever laid eyes upon. There he was, my premature baby, who wasn't supposed to make it through the birthing process. Once they cleared his throat, and he began to wail, as he took on his natural complexion, I knew, right then and there that he would be just fine. I also realized at that very moment that I had taken on a new role, to protect this tiny 12 inch long, 1 pound 15 ounce person from all the evils of the world.

Aiden, like the vast majority of premature babies, has had his share of medical issues and developmental setbacks.  Today, Aiden is a normal, happy, healthy, soon to be four-year old boy, slightly small in stature, but we're confident that if he keeps pace with his current rate of growth, He'll catch up soon.

What Is a Food Processor and What Are the Advantages of Having One?

You finally have a few extra minutes to spend in the kitchen to fix a tasty supper. You open up your cookbook, find the perfect recipe, read the steps. And quickly decide to call in a pizza. With the amount of ingredients needing to be finely chopped, grated, kneaded, and sliced before you can even get the meal in the oven to cook, you have used up any additional time you may have had. However, with a food processor, you can cut your preparation time down to a minimal amount, enabling you to have even a gourmet meal right at home.

An essential and popular kitchen tool

This kitchen appliance is an essential kitchen item. Originally, it began as a machine only top chefs and cooking connoisseurs used. As time progressed though, and people began to realize just how wonderfully simple and efficient food processors were, they became popular. Production increased, prices came down, and now the average kitchen can afford to have one sitting on the cabinet.

Food processors take the time out of common kitchen tasks, such as chopping, cutting, slicing, pureeing, kneading, grinding, grating, and shredding. Plus, they take strain off your fingers, wrists, and lower arms, which can be especially helpful for individuals suffering from joint problems and arthritis.

Powerful and effective

While some miniature food processors are hand operated, most run by electricity. Typically, the wattage is around 500-1,200, giving enough power to slice through the toughest foods. The motor is powerful, but it is set inside the base, making it essentially sound proof. The motor spins metal discs or blades around at high speeds.

Usually, food processors have two speed controls of low or high, with some, like the Cuisinart DLC-2014N, having the option of a pulse button. The pulse button allows you to manually control the blades while still producing a high spin rate.

Sizes

Food processors come in different sizes, depending on what your cooking needs are. There are various bowl sizes, ranging from large, medium, and small. Small, or mini, usually starts about two cups and can go up to five cups. A medium, or compact bowl, holds between five to seven, or even eleven cups. And a large, or full-sized, bowl will hold between seven to a whopping fourteen cups. Some bowls come with markings up the side of the bowls to indicate how much you have processed without having to get a measuring cup out. Some food processor brands even allow you to interchange bowl sizes on the same processor.

It is recommended to get a food processor with at least a compact bowl size, though large is the best. While it costs a little more, the advantages of not having to continually empty a bowl out, as well as being prepared for any sized cooking need you have, outweigh the price. A large bowl also allows you to mix several foods at once. Typically, a food processor with a larger bowl size also has a more powerful motor to be able to keep up. This means faster results and a longer-lasting machine. A small bowl is convenient for quick jobs, such as chopping a half-cup of onion a recipe calls for or grinding spices to add to a homemade apple pie.

Attachments

A cylinder leading down into the bowl allows for ease-and safety-of putting foods into the processor. Not only do you not have to worry about getting your fingers in the way of the blades, but you also have both your hands free to add food.

Food processors come with various attachments. One helpful attachment which comes with some processors is a chute. This allows you to not have to stop the food processor and dish out the food before you can continue to add more. Instead, the processed food comes out the chute into another bowl, while you can continue to add food to the processor through the cylinder.

The main bonus of food processor attachments are the various blades and discs you can choose from. Many blades are universal, so regardless of what processor you have, they will most likely fit. The blades make the food processor. Depending on what blades you have dictate what you can do with your processor. The most common blade is an s-shaped blade, which comes with the processor when you purchase it. It does the basic cutting jobs. Another common attachment is the dough hook, a plastic attachment which kneads dough. If you frequently make bread, a dough hook is extremely helpful. It cuts kneading time down to just a couple of minutes.

Other handy discs include a French fry blade, making homemade French fries a cinch. There are also attachments which whip eggs, finely grate cheeses and chocolates, and thinly slice vegetables for salads. The pieces which come from the food processor are evenly cut, both in size and thickness. This not only makes for more attractive foods, but it also means the food will cook evenly and consequently, taste better.

Many advantages of a food processor

One great advantage of food processors is making your own baby food. Not only does this save you a significant amount of money from having to buy little jars of baby food every week, but it also provides a more healthier to feed your baby. With a pureeing blade, you can purchase fresh foods and with no effort turn it into perfectly edible, nutritious meals. Even meats can be ground up small enough for a small child to safely eat. Foods such as apples, peaches, bananas, squash, carrots, and sweet potatoes are highly recommended as a baby's first solids. A food processor has no problem pureeing these. Plus, you can make up a large batch at a time and freeze the extras in ice cubes, saving you time in the future.

Food processor advantages also include helping you control your weight-or to even lose weight. While obviously running a food processor is not going to help you burn calories, the benefits come in eating healthy meals you can prepare yourself at home. Fast-food restaurants are giant calorie traps. Rather than wasting money on foods which only put you back on your weight loss goals, use your food processor to help you quickly throw together a meal at home, where you can control the amount of calories you put into foods, and where you can choose fresh, healthy ingredients. Plus save yourself cash to spend on other necessities.

Finally, wow your family and friends with gourmet meals. Enjoy quality time over a delicious meal rather than slaving away in the kitchen, trying to finely dice ingredients. Or throw together salsas and dips for game days. The advantages of owning your food processor are almost limitless!

Personalized Baby Gifts for Your Growing Child

Kids love gifts with their name printed on them. From personalized pencils to t-shirts printed with their names, kids can’t get enough of personalized toys and gifts. So if you are looking for a birthday gift or a gift for a special achievement for a child under the age of twelve, you can’t go wrong with anything that’s personalized with his or her name. Personalized baby gifts are relatively easy to find, but when it comes to older children, you may have to stretch your brain a little to come up with a personalized gift that’s perfect for the occasion. Here are some suggestions to help you become the very best mommy, daddy or relative in the whole world.

Baby’s 1st Christmas Gifts

A baby’s first Christmas is a very special occasion, and should be acknowledged that way. In most cases, a child will not remember much about his or her first Christmas. However, this does not mean that the gift you give is “for the parents”. This is the year to look forward, far forward into the future, and buy a keepsake gift that the child will treasure for years to come. A suggestion for an ideal first Christmas gift is a personalized tree ornament that is sure to become a treasured heirloom in later years. Look ahead to the year that the child, now grown up, hangs the painted ornament with his or her name and date of birth on their own family’s Christmas.

For the Creeper and Crawler Set

What could be cuter than a little diapered bottom crawling away with the baby’s name printed across the flap of a pair of personalized long johns? Babies go through rompers and Onesies at a rate that’s alarming to any mother, so they can always use an extra set of rompers for everyday wear. You can make these extra special by personalizing them with the baby’s name and a cute graphic.

Soft and Cuddly Personalized Toys

Go beyond the stereotypical teddy bear when you are looking for a soft and cuddly toy for a young child. Pick a plush toy that can stand up to heavy-duty play like a Cottontail Bunny Cottage stuffed with cloth-sided furniture and embroidered with your favorite little girl’s name. Boys will love this gift as well, but if you are leery about giving pink to a little boy, opt for a Noah’s Ark stuffed toy set complete with plush animals and an ark-shaped carrying case personalized with the child’s name.

Personalized Preschool Toys

For the pre-school set, you might want to move up a bit to more engaging interactive toys such as a Preschool Laptop that features numerous activities for the toddler on the go. Kids of this age love toys that light up and make noises on cue, so keep your eye out for toys that offer interactivity, but don’t forget classic favorites like wooden name puzzles. Name Puzzle Boards and Puzzle stools help youngsters learn to recognize and spell their names while providing a step up tool for reaching things like the bathroom sink.

Preschoolers are especially appreciative of items with their names on them. At this age, they are starting to go out and about in the world. Make it a little easier on them with gifts that are designed to go with them like a roll-up Nap and Go, which is a personalized nap-blanket that can be rolled up and tucked into a cubby at school or carted along to Grandma’s so that naptime is still comfortable.

Spruce up the bedroom with personalized furniture

As babies outgrow the nursery and become children, you can help make their bedrooms cozy retreats that reflect who they are. Kids need more than just a bed and a dresser if they are really going to live in their rooms. Encourage good habits with a personalized book rack painted with dragonflies or trains, or maybe even a hand-painted canvas organizer to make it more fun for your little bookworm to put away toys and books.

Some other kid-friendly furniture that your child might appreciate are a kid size table and chair set and a matching wooden rocking chair with his or her name hand-painted across the back. Keep in mind that preschool and primary school kids have each have their favorite cartoon characters from Disney, Sesame Street and Nick Kids. A Dora the Explorer pillowcase or a SpongeBob Squarepants laundry bag is almost guaranteed to be a big hit.

Personalized gifts for teens

By the time kids reach their teens, many of their own tastes and preferences are set. Try to keep favorite colors and themes in mind when you choose gifts, as well as to cater to their interests with the gifts that you pick. If you are not sure, there are many “neutral” personalized gifts that will make even the most cynical teen-ager smile. What teen wouldn’t like a personalized Aluminum Sports Water Bottle in a favorite color or a Street Sign painted with his or her name? Personalized t-shirts, sweatshirts and gear like Rolling Duffle Bags are also surefire pleasers for the teens on your gift list.

Freedom of Expression

J KRISHNAMURTI – "And with love, do what you will, there is no risk; there is no conflict. Then love is the essence of virtue. And a mind j that is not in a state of love, is not a religious mind at all."

J KRISHNAMURTI –"As you are externally aware, so also you can be inwardly aware of your thoughts and feelings, of your motives and urges, of your prejudices, envies, greed and pride... This outward and inward awareness is a unitary process which brings about a total integration of human understanding."

J KRISHNAMURTI –"Death must be something extraordinary; as life is. Life is a total thing. Sorrow, pain, anguish, joy absurd ideas, possession, envy, love, the aching misery of loneliness — all that is life. And to understand death, we must understand the whole life, not take just one fragment of it and live with that fragment, as most of us do. In the very understanding of life there is the understanding of death, because the two are not separate."

J KRISHNAMURTI – "Education has no meaning unless it helps you to understand the vast expanse of life with all its subtleties, with its extraordinary beauty, its sorrows and joys. You may win degrees; you may have a series of letters after your name and land a very good job; but then what? What is the point of it all if in the process your mind becomes dull, weary, stupid?"

J KRISHNAMURTI –"Human relationship is society, the relationship between you and me. If I am greedy and I have great power and authority, I am going to push you out; and you will try to do the same to me. So we make laws. But others come and break our laws, establishing another set of laws, and this goes on all the time..."

J KRISHNAMURTI –"It is only when you have no reason for being peaceful that you will have peace."

J KRISHNAMURTI –"Psychologically there is nothing in the world that you can put your faith, your trust, or your belief in. Neither your gods, nor your science can save you, can bring you psychological certainty; and you have to accept that you can trust in absolutely nothing. Because, your leaders - religious and political — and your books — sacred and profane — have all failed, and you are still confused, in misery, in conflict."

J KRISHNAMURTI –"The confidence of which I speak is understanding — not the "I understand", but understanding without self-identification... Confidence comes into being, it cannot be manufactured by the mind; confidence comes with experiment and discovery; not the experiment with belief, theory of memory but experimentation with self-knowledge. This confidence or faith is not self-imposed nor is it identified with belief, formulation and hope. It is not the outcome of self-expanding desire."

J KRISHNAMURTI –"To expand consciousness there must be a center which is aware of its expansion. The moment there is a center from which you are expanding, it is no longer expansion because the center always limits its own expansion."

J KRISHNAMURTI –"We shall know the state of love only when jealousy, envy, possessiveness, domination, comes to an end. And as long as we possess we shall never love."

J MARILYN BARRETT –"Although weeding, cutting back and transplanting are activities that may seem repetitive and never ending, when seen as a necessary and integral part of the overall unfolding of the garden scheme, they become purposeful rather than boring. In fact, what may appear on the surface to be tedious physical work may, in the actual doing, be spiritually liberating."

J NEVILLE WARD –"Failure is as much a part of life as success is and by no means something in front of which one sits down and howls as though it is a scandal and a shame."
