The Wedding Night Dilemma

The church wedding was beautiful, as was the reception at the country club. The courtship had been exciting and romantic, yet she knew in her gut that something was wrong. This did not subdue her excitement about becoming Mrs. Roger Tillman, Jr.

During a brief break up between she and Roger because she wouldn't have sex with him, she had a one night fling with a guy at the singles club where she and her girlfriends hung out. The one night encounter had meant very little to her, mainly because it was to get back at Roger, and it being her first time, she experienced some pain. Roger had returned back to her life shortly after the one night stand, and convinced her that marriage was their only solution.

A quick wedding was planned and the invitations were sent out.

Roger took care of all the honeymoon details. They would fly to Los Angles, with a one night layover and leave the next day for Hawaii. This one night layover, proved to be Marilyn's savior.

Roger was his usual sweet self at the wedding and reception. Even at the airport he was attentive and warm. It was much later that evening after the long flight across country that Marilyn saw a side of her new husband which she never knew existed.

The wedding night started off like most newly weds. Both were tired from the long day, both were anxious to experience each other. Roger went to the bathroom to change into something comfortable, first. When he came out of the dressing room area, he was wearing a leather jump suit with holes in it. He had a whip, hand cuffs, and chains hanging down from his waist area.

He then begin trying to explain to Marilyn, that this was what married couples do!

Marilyn was ready to call her Momma.

She remained quite long enough to realize that Roger thought her to be a virgin and he had ever intension of sexually enslaving his new wife. When Marilyn tried to object, without letting him know, that she wasn't exactly a virgin, Roger became angry.

Marilyn than decided to go alone with the program and escape from the room as soon as she could.

After going into the restroom and putting her street clothes back on, she put her robe on top, and brushed her hair. She had been given cash at the wedding reception, and stuffed the cash into her bra, as she thought about how to get out of the room.

Slowly Marilyn opened the door, to see the man she had married in a leather get-up with chains hanging from his waist. Walking to him, slowly, Marilyn looking him straight in the eyes, and asked him to get some ice, so she could have a drink to help her perform better.

Roger's eyes got big and he said, "Baby, I don't have my cloths on, why don't you get the ice, and I'll get the drinks out of the mini-bar."

As Marilyn walked slowly to the door, she turned and said, "I'll be right back." Once out of the room, she ran to the elevator and headed to the lobby. Once in the lobby, she ask the bellman to get her a cab. By the time the cab pulled up, she could hear Roger calling her name, as the cab pulled away from the curb.

"Airport."

"Yes, madam." replied the cab driver as he speed up, as if he was in a car chase.

Once at the airport Marilyn contacted her mother, who immediately called the airlines and paid for the plane ticket back home. She told Marilyn to stay in the VIP Lounge in case Roger followed her to the airport.

Marilyn did as her mother instructed. And as she sat at the bar, trying to act like a grown up, instead of a frighten child of 22 years, questions begin to formulate within her mind. Why hadn't she known this about Roger? Why hadn't she insisted on sleeping with him before marring him? She silently became angry at the church. She had followed the teachings of her church as far as Roger was concerned, yet she felt betrayed. Roger's family were members of the same church.

Marilyn's plane trip back to the East coast was a long trip home. She cried softly in her seat as she tried to convince the airline attendant, that she was ok.

Marilyn's mother picked her up at the airport and convinced her not to explain "all" the details of the previous night to her father. Marilyn's mother said over and over agin, that there were several reasons for this decision. First, she didn't want to explain to the church members what had actually happened. And secondly, neither Marilyn nor her mother wanted to see Marilyn's father in prison for assault. Marilyn knew if her father knew the truth, he would seriously hurt Roger. She also realized this would cause a family feud between the two families and possibly within the church.

But regardless of what Marilyn told her father, her heart knew the truth, and she openly wondered, if she would ever have the courage to love again.

The toys seem age appropriate and stimulating. When you put your baby in the activity center, he / she will laughs and acts like he does not know which toy to visit first.

There are toy bars that arch over the baby's seat. 10 links are included so that you can attach additional toys to the links. This is my favorite feature, because it keeps the activity center "fresh." If your baby becomes bored with a toy, you can attach a new toy to the link. This has also encouraged our baby to develop better hand-eye coordination as he tries to reach, grasp, and explore the hanging toys.

2. Music

I like the music. The musical selections are classical and they all play for a decent amount of time.

3. Sturdy and durable

The Musical Motion Activity center folds up easily for storage & portability. It does not fold completely flat, but it is nice that it at least folds up a bit so that it can fit in a closet and through doorways.

Overall, the activity center feels sturdy and seems to be made of durable materials.

The activity center is heavy, which is good because it is also sturdy.

The springs on the Einstein Center are not as bouncy as the springs on the Jumperoo. Our son really gets moving in the Jumperoo. He definitely jumps in the Baby Einstein...just not quite as much. He seems to enjoy the Baby Einstein more for the toys than the jumping or motion.

In Conclusion

Einstein Baby Jumper verses Fisher Price Jumper

Einstein Baby Jumper retails for $84 (Amazon). The Fisher Price Jumperoo retails for $83 (Amazon). The fact that the seat rotates to four stations and the overhead arches allow us to add toys makes the Einstein Baby Jumper seem more interesting and engaging.

However, if you are really most interested in a jumper (and not so concerned about having an activity center), I would definitely go with the Fisher Price Jumper due to the bouncier springs. Our son seems to really enjoy both, so I think a little one would have lots of fun in either center.

But, if I had to select one or the other, we would select the Baby Einstein product because it combines the best of both worlds.

Our son is now 17 months old. He is very small for his age, so he still fits comfortably in his Baby Einstein Musical Motion Activity Center. He is moving around on his own now, so we only place him in the Baby Einstein center when he is watching a Baby Einstein movie and we need to get some chores completed, prepare dinner, etc.

Around 8-9 months old, the piano station became his favorite feature.

Around 10-11 months old, our son became really active and did not want to be confined in an activity center anymore, so he stopped enjoying the Baby Einstein (unless he is watching a movie, of course).

Overall, our son got a lot of use from the Einstein Baby Jumper from 4 months-11 months, and we still use it as a safe "seat" during movies, so we feel that it is a great toy.

Sign Language Basics - Directionality

Sign languages are different because they are three-dimentional spatial languages. Far from being simply spoken languages put on the hands, they are real languages on their own. They are rich, dramatic, efficient and elaborate. Sign languages have components that no spoken languages have.

One of these components is directionality. To illustrate this, I'll use the simple sign "give." We'll imagine you're having a signed conversation with someone named George, who stands in front of you.

In American Sign Language, or ASL, the sign for "give" begins with hands upturned at mid-body level, fingertips closed as if holding a piece of paper. To make this sign, just move your hands forward as if you are giving someone the piece of paper. You can "give" more than a piece of paper this way; you can "give" a house, a germ, an elephant, a DVD of Star Trek, with this same sign.

To say "I give you," make this sign beginning in front of your body, and extend the hands toward your friend George. This would tell George that you are giving something directly to him.

To ask George to give something to you, you would start the sign in front of him, and move the sign in toward your own body. See the difference between the two signs? "I give you" starts close to you and moves away. "You give me" starts away from you and moves inward.

Now, let's make it interesting. Imagine that two more friends have joined in the conversation. We'll call them Ginny and Pete. We'll assume you are familiar with fingerspelling - but don't worry if you're not, this is just an illustration. First, you spell "Ginny" and point down and slightly to your left, between yourself and George. Now spell "Pete" and point down and slightly to your right.

While looking at George, make the "give" sign starting in front of you and moving to the left, to the spot where you placed Ginny. You have now told George that you gave Ginny something. To tell George that you gave Pete something, look at George and make the same sign, except move it toward your right side.

Now let's tell George that you will give something to Ginny, and she will then give it to George. Do what you did before, but add a bit to it. While looking at George, "give" the item to Ginny. Pause, still keeping eye contact with George. Then continue the movement of your hands from Ginny's spot, over to George.

What if Pete must get the item after George is done with it? Just add on again. Once you have had Ginny give the item to George, pause, then continue the movement over to Pete's spot.

To make this even more pointed, add one more sign to the sequence. This sign is "finish." This can be made with one or two hands. Start with the hands open, fingers separated, palms up, in front of you. Flick the hands downward once as if shaking off water. For this scenario, keep the "finish" sign near you while the "give" sign moves around the circle.

Now: "Give" your item to Ginny with one hand. Maintain eye contact with George. While holding the item in Ginny's area, make the "finish" sign with the other hand. Now "give" the item to George, then sign "finish." Move the item to Pete's area. You have told George the sign equivalent of "I give the item to Ginny. When Ginny is finished with it, she gives it to you. When you're done with it, you give it to Pete."

You could even add on another set of "finish, give" if Pete has to give the item back to you when he's done with it. Just sign "finish" and move the "give" sign from Pete's area back to yourself.

There are two ways to show that you will give the same type of item to everyone at once. For the first kind, it is easier to use only one hand. Begin with the signing hand in front of your body. In one smooth, sweeping arc, "give" the item to Ginny, then George and then Pete.

A second way to show this idea uses both hands at the same time. With one hand, in a smooth arc "give" the item to George and then Pete. With the other hand, "give" the item slightly forward and then sweep it over to Ginny.

In ASL and in other sign languages, directionality quickly becomes intuitive. Once you understand the basics of this component, it's easy to understand, imagine and create complex meanings.
